Internet Are Essential Now To Be A Utility: And Here Why It Should Be

Internet As A Utility Is An Opportunity

As we know utilities are water, gas and electricity. What makes them "utilities" are they are essential in human everyday lives, furthermore, they are essential in the economic and social development of a country.

At first, I thought now the internet is just an internet, as long we are in urban areas we can get good coverage and it doesn't matter with which telco subscriptions we are using. Because there is no uniqueness at the core between different telcos, they are pushing the price down to compete in capturing the market size.

However, the internet is still not accessible for everyone, especially for the lower economic level income segment. Of these less unfortunate ones, the majority are in rural areas. Since the telcos are not focusing on the market of the rural area, there no accessibility for good strength coverages internet for the young ones. Moreover, the internet is a tool that can help youth to learn most efficiently till now and we don't want the youth in rural areas to be left behind.

I do agree with the idea of not making the internet a utility will make these telco companies working on advancing their products such as developing 5G infrastructures to offer higher values services to the urban areas. Because internet speeds do matters in making life more efficiently with such as watching high quality live steamings, uploading big working files quickly, ability to work our project in the cloud securely and the goodness list goes on.

However, same as Water, there is basic water we can get from the tap and there are ionized water, flavoured water, sprinkling water, energy water and so on. These other types of waters are niche for a particular group of market segments such as sportsman, labour and etc. Therefore, the same as 5G high-speed internet is for organisations or freelancers or only for entertainment purposes. They are not for everyday homes consumption, and the basic internet we have now is already enough for us to browse on news, articles, just good quality videos and using app services.

Hence, making the internet a utility will benefit everyone in the country with its controlled price which is usually at a rate that is accessible for every economic level of income. And now, no youth or anyone left out from participating in this fast pace technology era, furthermore, they can learn and build their skills to make them credible to work and able to help them escape poverty.

As mentioned above the internet is an opportunity...
